New Prato Bakery in Jersey CityBY Editor, June 22, 2015
Prato Bakery, located at 61 Erie St., is Bertini and wife Teresa Villi’s second bakery in the U.S after they opened Il Cantuccio in the West Village of New York City in 2008. Located only 20 minutes walk from Liberty Towers, this Italian bakery is named after a small city in Tuscany just north of the capital of Italy, home to delicious baked specialties such as the cantucci. This traditional cookie is one of the many treats you could smell baking right here in Jersey City at the newly opened Prato Bakery.
Prato’s Bakery offers outdoor patio seating and the environment of an Italian cafe with rustic wood making up the furniture and decor and with frames encasing baked goods in the process of creation. Customers also have the option of shopping for Italian products to make at home like vialone nano semifino rice, noodles, vodka sauce and cherry tomatoes.
With Italian-imported goods like olive oil and buffalo mozzarella, owner Bertini says locals have been drawn to his bakery’s dedication to keeping the atmosphere simple and traditional. Locals come here for desserts, ingredients, cappuccinos, espressos. iced coffees and everything else you can imagine.
In a quote to The Jersey Journal: “I love this neighborhood,” Bertini said, “and the people who really appreciate my products.”
Prato Bakery is open Monday to Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. For a look at the menu visit www.pratobakery.com.
