Bring out your inner film buff at the Golden Door International Film FestivalBY Editor, September 19, 2016
The fall season is the perfect time to cuddle up with your special someone in your Liberty Towers apartment and watch a movie. And, coincidentally, it’s also the season for the Golden Door International Film Festival, which will be held from Sept. 22 through Sept. 25 at the The Landmark Loew’s Jersey Theatre at 54 Journal Square Plaza in Jersey City, only 15 minutes away from your home.
Now in its sixth year, the Golden Door International Film Festival has screened over 450 films and has garnered over 125,000 attendees. With a $175 pass, you can be one of them, with access to the opening and closing night galas, film blocks, seminars and after parties.
The headlining films which will be shown at the opening and closing gala, respectively, will be Another You and Searching for Running Man, which you can also purchase tickets to on their own for $65. These galas are open bar, sponsored by Tito’s Vodka and NJ Beer Co., and there will also be after parties in the theater.
So what makes Golden Door different from all those other film festivals you have been to? Besides the fact that it’s down the street, this festival shines a light on Jersey City to provide an equal opportunity for all filmmakers – well known and otherwise.
Although the opportunity to submit a film is now closed for this year, you can submit a film for next year’s festival by visiting their website, goldendoorfilmfestival.org. Any filmmaker with a film completed within the last 2 years as of the submission date can submit their film.
