An Asian food fan’s underground bliss opens near your Liberty Towers apartmentBY Editor, November 28, 2016
In stylish Jersey City, white tablecloth restaurants and lounges with servers dressed in suits and ties can be found on every corner.
But Cellar 335, an Asian fusion restaurant at 335 Newark Avenue which opened in August, has taken a new twist to chic by modernizing and electrifying a cellar space with a hand-carved teak wood bar and big leather banquettes made from reclaimed church pews around barrel-style tables.
Adorning the seductive red walls is the provocative work of a local graffiti artist, collages of vintage mirrors and double-take worthy photographs. However, what’s most important at Cellar 335 is what you can find on your plate.
The small-plate style restaurant is an Asian food fan’s below-deck bliss with must-try items such as sausage and peppers bao, Hamachi tartare with crispy rice cake, cucumber and ponzo, crispy duroc ribs with sesame, coconut and tamarind barbeque and pumpkin crumble with granola, butterscotch and vanilla whip.
These exotic dishes go hand-to-glass with Cellar 335’s Tiki-style cocktails such as Race to the Heavens with el dorado 12yr, velvet falernum, cinnamon, absinthe and angostura bitters as well as the PSMT with Appleton signature, avua amburana, clement premiere canne, combier, pumpkin orgeat and lime.
Hitting on elements of sensuality with dark leather and distressed wood as well as a wildness of exotic plants and graffiti, Cellar 335 makes for an ideal date spot as well as a place to get a late-night cocktail. Visit this little underground hideaway in Jersey City Tuesday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. as well as Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
