A Bar That Stands Apart in Jersey CityBY Editor, January 12, 2017
Liberty Towers residents are well aware that anytime they need a cold brew, glass of wine or cocktail, there’s always a bar to suit their needs only blocks away from home. However, as of August, there’s one new bar that certainly stands apart from the rest – the Pet Shop Bar at 193 Jersey Avenue, which is about one mile from your Liberty Towers apartment.
The Pet Shop Bar is exactly as its name states – the space was formerly occupied by Village Tropical, a pet store. When the owners couldn’t find a proper location to open a music venue, they decided to use the space to house an upscale rock n’ roll bar serving vegetarian food to locals.
In the Pet Shop Bar, you’ll find a jukebox stocked with releases from local bands, framed posters of those bands, a long narrow bar and open area with tables as well as a backyard space with picnic tables. Plus, thrift store paintings and needlepoint of animals adorn the walls, with a neon version of the logo – a bird cage, of course – on the back wall.
The owners also sought to create a haven for vegetarians with its all-vegetarian menu, with items such as “pulled pork” sliders made from jackfruit, a beet carpaccio, a trio of bean-based pate spreads and curry disco fries. They also house American classic beers to craft favorites as well as six signature cocktails.
Check out this upscale source for live music in a very unique space by visiting them at 193 Jersey Avenue or learn more by visiting petshopjc.com.
