Jazz for Lunch Concert Series in Jersey CityBY Editor, July 5, 2017
Take a midday music break down on the water at J. Owen Grundy Pier. Almost every Thursday this July, The City of Jersey City and the Office of Cultural Affairs are welcoming a range of jazzy artists for two full hours of groovy tunes. It’s going to be another summer of great music with views of the New York City skyline. This July, you can look forward to the following performances:
The Funky Organics – The band is composed of organ, drums tenor sax and trumpet. Their self-titled debut CD has was just released and they are excited to share it with Jersey City. The musicians in this band have performed with classics such as Luther Vandross and Benny James and are well known in the New York jazz scene.
Bryan Beninghove – Beninghove’s Hangmen is an instrumental downtown NYC-based sextet with a truly unique yet familiar sound. Influences range from Danny Elfman, Dick Dale, Led Zeppelin, and Tom Waits. They have been called “NYC’s most cinematic noir band” (NY Music Daily) and their music has been featured on Comedy Central, IFC, and more. They recently performed at the Riverview Jazz Festival, where Bryan serves as the President and Director of the event. Bryan also does private parties and weddings. Whether you are looking for French gypsy jazz or an eight-piece funk band, he’s your guy!
Andrea Brachfeld – If you love the flute, then you won’t want to miss this performance on July 2th. Andrea is jazz and Latin jazz flutist and composer. She performs mostly in New York City and New Jersey and just so happens to be a Jersey City resident!
